Tracey Weiss, Our Ocean Backyard | Look for the Helpers in Monterey Bay

One of the most important conservation efforts along our coast is the Blue Whales Blue Skies program. Led through a partnership involving federal agencies, the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation, numerous shipping companies, and environmental organizations, the initiative encourages vessels traveling through whale migration corridors to voluntarily slow down. The program aims to reduce fatal ship strikes on endangered blue, fin and humpback whales while also lowering underwater noise and reducing air pollution.
