Modern nomads and being part of the solution

Back in the early spring of 2022, Nomad was the first company to join Blue Whales and Blue Skies as an ambassador! We wanted to take a minute to not only thank them for seeing the potential in the program and their sustained support, but to share a bit more about their company, backstory, and efforts to operate their business responsibly.
Nomad began as a Kickstarter in 2012 with a vision of creating a minimalist iPhone cable that would seamlessly integrate into people’s everyday carry, keeping phones charged on the go. ChargeCard, Nomad’s first product, launched in July 2012. Nomad describes itself as a brand that “creates tools for the modern Nomad: durable iPhone cases, Apple Watch bands, wireless chargers, tracking accessories, and more. Designed for those who are always on the move, our gear combines premium materials with functional design to keep your tech protected, powered, and ready for anything.”
On what prompted Nomad to join
“We’ve grown a lot since 2012, expanding our product range, team, and goals. Along with all this growth, our impact on the places we love has grown too. That’s why a big part of our mission going forward is to reduce our impact and lead the way towards a more sustainable future for all. We first learned about BWBS in 2021, and the mission aligned with our goals. The impact they were creating was happening right in our backyard, and we saw the potential the program had. We wanted to be part of it.”
In terms of Nomad’s other efforts to address the impact of doing business, since 2020, they’ve partnered with Climate Neutral to offset 100% of their carbon emissions and implemented strategies like using renewable energy and encouraging sustainable commuting. They’ve also joined PrAna’s Responsible Packaging Movement, reduced waste by excluding power adapters, and refurbished returned items through the Open Box initiative.
On what drives Nomad
“We’re based in coastal Santa Barbara, California, with an intimate connection to the Pacific Ocean and its majestic wildlife. Our products draw inspiration from the rugged coastline, the nearby mountains, and the outdoor adventures they invite. At the same time, we’re a truly global team with Nomads in eight countries bringing a wide range of perspectives and a shared spirit of exploration. We’re driven by curiosity, a love of adventure, and a deep appreciation for the elegance of utility and design is at the heart of everything we make. The materials we use come from this planet, and we believe that gives us a responsibility to protect it. By striving to operate more sustainably, we aim to be part of the solution, not just part of the problem.” – Noah Dentzel, CEO & Cofounder
